Hours after former US President Barack Obama toured K'Ogelo, Gatundu South Moses Kuria has analysed how he was treated and concluded that "Africans, especially Kenyans, are a weird lot".

Obama went to the village on Monday and helped his half sister Auma to launch Sauti Kuu resource centre.

Kuria regretted that Obama did "practically nothing ... zero" for K'Ogelo, Kenya and Africa while he was the most powerful person on earth for eight years, "with unfettered access to the awesome American economy and nuclear codes".

"Today as a eunuch former President, he visits Kenya [and] we close all the roads for him. He then proceeds to K'Ogelo, body-searches host Governor Cornel Rasanga and reduces my good friend and Lupita Nyongo's daddy (Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o) into a spectator," he wrote on his Facebook page.

"The skinny kid with a funny name then delivers a seven-minute hollow speech with a curtain raiser from his sister Auma who sets the stage by giving a scathing and condescending indictment of Luo Nyanza leaders.

"No wonder Baba Raila Odinga (opposition leader) skipped the event. Meanwhile the Chicago benefactor goes on to open a $200,000 obscure centre for God knows what.

"The guy found Bill Clinton's Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) in place. The same was expanded by President George Howard Walker Bush. Obama did nothing, absolutely zero, to expand AGOA. Today he launches a $200,000 whatever in Kogelo. Nani alituroga

(who bewitched us)?"

More on this:

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale was also unimpressed.

After the launch of the foundation, the former President went to South Africa where he will meet President

Cyril Ramaphosa and deliver the keynote address at the 16th Nelson Mandela Lecture.

He will also take part in a town hall meeting with 200 new leaders of the Obama Foundation in Africa.

On Twitter, Khalwale wrote: "Dear (Obama),

I believe you have landed safely in South Africa, and hope that this finds you well. With tremendous respect Sir, can you tell us why while you were in the most powerful office (of the world’s biggest economy) you refused to bring development to your home, Kenya?"

'OBAMA ELECTED FOR US, NOT KENYA'

Some of the Twitter users who responded to Khalwale's message told him to mind his own business.

Benji Ndolo defended Obama, saying he is a "solid, genuine, honorable man ... a fantastic and kind human being who grew up without a dad".

He told the politician to "stop the nonsense".

Jackie Arkle dismissed Khalwale as shallow while one Sang noted that Mama Sarah Obama's grandson was elected to serve AmericanS so he does not owe Kenyans anything.

Ian Kochomo wrote: "So shameful, Boni. I'm so disappointed in you. Obama is an American with Kenyan roots; like you are a Kenyan with Congo Forest roots. Obama owes Kenya

nothing. Likewise, you owe the Congolese nothing."

Wuod

Nyacity told the politician that he has become "really unreasonable" since leaving office.

"Why wait until he gets to SA?" Nyacity asked.

Thomas Amakanji

said: "Why did you fail to bring development in Ikolomani, let alone Kakamega, while you were in office? Obama came to launch what his sister set up. What did you, or have you, set up in Kakamega?".

Ndungu Gachane said the ex-President did not have to respond to Khalwale's question.

"He was elected in America and not Kenya. You are the one who should be answering the question," he told Khalwale, who lost the Kakamega Governor race in the August 8, 2017 general election.

Walu Wande was "shocked to read that my good friend Boni believes development can be brought or sent" as "people empower and develop themselves through hard work and honesty".

Josh Oluga wondered why Obama should bother as "we are busy looting what exists".

Some of those who agreed with Khalwale said Luos felt the same way but were afraid to speak out.

"Good question. In fact, Obama was a disaster for Africa. Bush did a lot in the continent but when our so-called son came into office, he actually scaled down all that," one Twitter user said.

He said Obama should at least have erected

a monument at Uhuru Park for people to 'look at' from time to time.

"He failed us and Africa," he said.

Edward Mujuka wrote:

"You are all here bashing Boni but majority of Luos, me included, are silently asking themselves the same question. Boni just had the guts to ask loudly."
