A female MCA has claimed she was assaulted by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's bodyguards on Tuesday.

Mary Mwami, a Nominated ODM MCA, said she was attacked after a face-off with Sonko at City Hall.

She accused the Governor of verbally attacking her before one the bodyguards turned physical.

Central OCPD Robinson Thuku said Mwami reported the incident that night.

"She recorded a statement under OB/155/ at 9pm," Thuku told the Star on the phone on Thursday.

He said the county legislator is expected to furnish police with medical reports.

"If the medical tests prove she was assaulted, we will take action and arrest the accused," Thuku said.

Mwami said she was assaulted when members of the Transport Committee were scheduled to have a meeting with the Governor.

"As I entered his office, Sonko shouted at me saying Wewe mama tuheshimiane, unatukana watu wangu (Woman, lets respect each are abusing my people),"

Mwami said.

She told journalists at City Hall on Wednesday that to prevent an argument, she left Sonko's office and was escorted by security men.

"As I was leaving Sonko's office, a bodyguard famously known as Jamal confronted me on claims I abused the Governor and his people," she said.

"I know Jamal as we have met in various functions. He jumped on my neck, pulled me and threw me on the ground. I am a person with disability.

By the time he left, I noticed he had roughed me up to the point where my bra was torn."

Her colleagues Millicent Okatch, Emilly Oduor and Immapet Kemunto condemned the alleged assault.

The Governor's communication team has denied the claims saying there was no fracas at the office.
