Speaker Justin Muturi has intervened following MPs cries about nude photos from a woman who has put a strain on their marriages.
Muturi has
ordered the Internal Security Committee to summon the DCI boss, Inspector General,
the Communications Authority director and mobile service providers within seven days.
The MPs complained that
a woman sends them obscene pictures
of herself.
Majority leader Aden Duale told Parliament how the woman, whom they did not name, had made them afraid of using their phones.
"There is also a [woman] who has the telephone numbers of all the male MPs...she posts obscene photos and sends them to us," he said.
Duale (Garissa Town) was joined by his Kiminini counterpart Chris Wamalwa who said he normally hides to read messages sent to his phone.
"Recently, the same [woman] sent me something and I tried to open it…the sounds that came out of it made it difficult for me to speak in my house," he said.
"This matter is breaking families."
Suna East MP Junet Mohamed also shared his experience saying the Speaker should investigate the issue.
"A situation arises where you are at home and you give your son the phone to play with
then the message comes in," he told Muturi.
"... if I show you [what I received], you cannot even look with your eyes [sic]," he added, causing laughter.
Woman representatives also raised issues of men harassing them by phone.
"Male MPs think they are the only ones being seduced. Even female MPs are being seduced left, right and centre," Baringo MP Kaptuya Cheboiwo said.
"If you have a husband who has weak shock absorbers, yes, you can easily get divorced."
Minority leader John Mbadi (Suba South) complained that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations is inept in handling the matter.
"I gave my number and my wife's in the 11th Parliament. My wife has been a victim [where the photos are concerned]," he said.
Mbadi said police must act expeditiously and see to it that the culprits are arrested.
