An 80-year-old woman who allegedly stole and sold a six-week-old baby was yesterday found guilty by a Makadara court.

Katuku Kyego was charged alongside Caroline Wambua with child trafficking on August 26, 2015 in Embakasi.

They were also accused of making a document without authority, claiming it was a clinic card belonging to the baby.

A professional nurse at Bahati Clinic, who testified in court, said Wambua visited the clinic with the baby and produced a clinical card indicating

it was a female born on June 28

2015 and had visited the clinic on

August 25, 2015.

Following the contradiction, Wambua was arrested and

confessed the child belonged to her daughter. But when her husband was summoned, he denied knowing anything about the child.

Wambua admitted they bought the child in Kayole because she did not have a child for 15 years.

She sought help from Kyego, who told her a baby girl was available for Sh20,000.

During the two-year court battle, Kyego said she picked the baby from the toilet, washed it and asked Wambua to take care of it.

"The circumstances under which the accused persons dealt with the child was strange, criminal, highly suspicious and shrouded in mystery since no other neighbor was aware that a child had been picked from the toilet" the judgement read.
