Woman ‘chops’ daughter’s fingers over cigarette theft

A 33-year-old woman was yesterday charged with cutting her 13-year-old daughter’s fingers for stealing her two cigarettes in Mwiki.

Waitress Nancy Wanjiku allegedly assaulted her daughter last Thursday.She is also charged with lying to a policeman that her daughter was assaulted by her boyfriend.

Police records indicate that Wanjiku left her daughter with her boyfriend and returned home at around 10pm and found her two cigarettes missing from the cupboard. Police said Wanjiku insisted her daughter had smoked her cigarettes despite the daughter denying and telling her that a neighbour had gone to the house and taken them. She reportedly became angry, charged at her daughter with a kitchen knife and cut off her fingers. Wanjiku was released on cash Sh15,000 cash bail. The case will be heard on January 25 next year.
