Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery has said that the Maasai community will remain in Jubilee as William ole Ntimama intended.

“Ntimama led the move to Jubilee [and] even though he is no more we will all remain there," he said at the weekend.

"It is as if he was looking for better hands to leave us in,” Nkaissery added.

The CS made the remarks amid campaigns to replace Ntimama as 'Maasai king'.

Ntimama, who was considered the community kingpin and politicians are now searching for his successor.

Nkaissery said Maasai elders will meet and consult on who they are going to delegate the kingpin role to.

But two leaders from Kajiado have fronted Nkaissery as the best man to take over the kingpin role.

"Ntimama did not hand over powers to anyone, but we have Nkaissery for our next king," Senator Peter Mositet said at the weekend.

More on this:

He said the community will have to hand over the kingship role to someone immediately so as to continue where Ntimama left.

Kajiado West MP Moses ole Sakuda said Nkaissery was ready for the seat, as he has been closer to Ntimama.

"We need someone to take his place as our people must have a leader," he said.

But he noted that elders will have to consult, by seeking guidance and a way forward from their ancestors, before installing Nkaissery as king.

Sakuda and Mositet also said that the Maasai community will remain in Jubilee party, as it was Ntimama's wish.

Earlier in August, Ntimama had taken a delegation of to meet with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The leaders agreed to join Uhuru's Jubilee party ahead of the 2017 general elections.

Ntimama's body was moved to the Lee funeral home in Nairobi and burial plans are underway.
