A URP county coordinator on Friday told Cord leaders not to proceed with parallel Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1st.

Nelson Koech termed Cord's rally as an attack and abuse to the Jubilee government.

Koech also urged the government not to allow the opposition to hold the rally, saying it would invite .

He expressed fear that Cord's Uhuru Park rally could be used by goons to loot the business community.

"Deploy anti-riot police at Uhuru Park starting dawn, before the opposition starts preparations for the celebration," Koech told the government.

"They (opposition) should either join President Uhuru Kenyatta or remain indoors," the Belgut politician added.

This will be the first time in Kenya’s history for Madaraka Day celebrations to be held away from Nairobi.

The have been described as an affirmation of Jubilee's authority in Rift Valley, after Kanu appeared to be regaining popularity.

Cord intends to hold a parallel rally in Uhuru Park.
