The Kenya Film Classification Board chief executive Ezekiel Mutua yesterday raised concerns over increased betting and gambling in the media.

He said a law will come into force in July banning betting and gambling advertisements during watershed hours. Mutua said Kenyans must work hard and not be encouraged to gamble.

“We want to discourage the betting and gambling culture, being developed in the country. We are showing our children there is a quick way to make money without working hard,” he said.

Mutua said the board is consulting with the Betting Control and Licensing Board to ensure the games are regulated. “We must reclaim our morals and values,” he said. Mutua spoke in Nyeri town after meeting county senior police officers.
