Police in Kajiado apprehended a suspect involved in the murder of a businessman in Kitengela early this month.

“We have embarked on a serious mission to deal with the Kitengela problem," Kajiado County Commissioner, Harsama Kello said on Friday. "Yesterday we arrested one of the criminals who recently shot and killed Charles,” the security brief continued.

On the night of April 5, armed gangsters shot dead Charles Obiri, a businessman and resident of Kitengela, Kajiado county, and later robbed his wife Eunice of Sh5, 000 in cash.

Witnesses at the time said a white pickup dropped seven people near New Valley estate at 9.30pm and half an hour later, gunshots were heard in Milimani estate.

The robbers were said to have attempted to break into houses.

Isinya police boss Stephen Weda told the Star the gangsters, believed to have been five or six, raided several estates and dodged officers on patrol.

Weda said after killing Obiri, the gangsters went to Police Sacco estate and robbed a man of Sh20, 000.

He said Obiri was gunned down as he attempted to escape. The police boss said the victim was shot three times in the head, arm, and chest.

Police in Kajiado suspect the gang members live in Nairobi’s Eastlands and are transported to the county to commit crimes.

Six other people involved in motorbike theft around Kitengela were also arrested on Thursday, according to Kello. Four motorbikes were recovered and Kello said "General security will be restored in Kitengela town immediately."

More suspects will also be arrested, particularly “the gang of seven and we will keep updating you on our actions,” the commissioner added.
