Police have been asked to speed-up investigations into the death of Nairobi
ODM
youth leader,
Stephen Mukabana.
Mukabana was shot dead on Tuesday night in Mihango area, Utawala.
"His murder, is suspect and raises a lot of questions that can only be answered through thorough forensic investigations by the police," ODM's executive director Oduor Ong’wen said.
Ong’wen said the party will
not rest until the truth is told on the "shooting of our member and official".
"The Party is greatly affected by killing of Mukabana who was an active member of ODM Youth League," he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Ong’wen condemned the attack saying Mukabana’s active involvement in the party affairs will be missed,.
"Mukabana contributed immensely to the growth of the party in Nairobi and its environs," he said.
"We pray for the family especially his wife and children during this painful moment of grief and sorrow," Ong’wen
added.
Nairobi governor Evans Kidero also condemned the attack saying such humane acts of impunity are "regrettable and cannot be allowed to go unpunished in a country under my watch".
"I assure Mukabana that i will do all within my willpower to bring all these cowards involved in this heinous act to face justice," Kidero said.
Mukabana was
driving into his compound when he allegedly heard screams from a where a man was being robbed when he met his death.
Police said Mukabana tried to help the man when he was shot in the head and chest at close range by the gang.
The man was also shot and wounded, he is in stable condition in hospital.
According to his younger brother Bob Mukabana, a group of eight men shot him and told his wife they had accomplished their mission.
In March, Mukabana made headlines as he pushed for elections to pick the Nairobi County youth leadership saying failure to conduct the poll could cost ODM votes in 2017.
On February 1,
a group of youths in storming ODM's Orange House headquarters demanding his recognition as Nairobi ODM youth leader.
The youths, who numbered more than 100, sought to hold a meeting at the premises to witness the handover of a certificate to Mukabana.
