The government has outlined plans to revive the ailing pyrethrum sub sector by injecting Sh300 million into the Pyrethrum Board of Kenya.

In meetings held between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nakuru county leaders at State House, Nakuru, Uhuru called for the revamping of the sector, saying pyrethrum was among one of the top cash crops in export earnings.

Uhuru said there is immense potential for the sub sector growing in the region and called on Kenyan farmers to reclaim its spot as one of the best pyrethrum growers in the world.

Out of the Sh300 million allocated to PBK in this year's budget, Sh150 million will be used as advance payment to farmers to motivate them to resume the crop production.

More than 200,000 farmers uprooted the crop more than 10 years ago when theft and delays in payment for delivered crop plagued the industry.
