Controversial author and former advisor to Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Miguna Miguna, returns to the country tomorrow to start a nationwide tour to promote his book. Miguna who left for Canada for with his family days after launching his book Peeling Back the Mask announced that he will be returning “to engage Kenyans on the most burning issues.” “In view of the malicious report that I had fled into exile, I wish to announce that my return flight is scheduled to land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on August 16, at about 8pm,” Miguna said.
In a statement, Miguna said he would embark on a countrywide tour of the 47 counties upon his return. “Subsequently, I will go on a 47-county tour, to launch and sign the book
and to engage Kenyans on the most burning issues of the day: unemployment, tribalism, malfeasance in public office, specifically grand corruption (especially of state and public officers), nepotism and the re-emergence of intolerance in Kenya,” he said. “As a country, we must ensure that the Constitution is adhered to in letter and spirit by everyone - leaders and ordinary citizens alike,” he added.
Miguna left the country soon after the director of public prosecution Keriako Tobiko directed the police to summon him to record a statement over his claims that he has evidence that Raila was involved in post-election violence. Miguna and the Daily Nation, which serialised the book, are being sued for defamation by Raila's chief of staff Caroli Omondi who is adversely mentioned in the book. Initially it had been reported that Miguna would return in September.
