The Isiolo timber merchant who was mistaken for Rwandan fugitive Felicien Kabuga has appealed to the government to accord him more security after his life was threatened. Daniel Ngeere Muthee who was accompanied by his wife Rebecca Kanana yesterday told journalists that his life and that of his family are under threat following a report on NTV that he was Kabuga. "We appeal to the government to provide us with more security because some strange cars have been coming to our home and business place but driving off when they notice security personnel," Muthee said.
The businessman's elder brother Stephen Kinoti Kiara asked media houses to double-check information. "It is perplexing that the media house which aired the story did not admit their mistake. We love our country and nobody in our family has ever done anything to injure the image of our country. We have never been involved in any criminal activity or hosted a criminal," Kiara said.
The businessman's wife, who narrated the family's tribulations, said they are ridiculed and everyone is referring to them as the Kabuga family. "We don't know the motive and I am afraid that someone might kill my husband thinking he is Kabuga to get the Sh400 million reward," She said. Police and Muthee denied the allegations that he is Kabuga during a press conference at Vigilance House a day after NTV aired a story alleging that senior government and military officials have been protecting the Rwandan fugitive in the country. Muthee has insisted that he is a Meru and only moved to Isiolo to do business.
