Some Kenyans, about a week ago expressed their frustrations on the long time the processing of IDs was taking. Some said they have waited for close to one, before receiving the document.

Apart from identification, the document is used to access a number of services. It is issued to citizens who have attained the age of 18.

Employers also seek for identity cards from prospective employees during hiring.

Delays in production have been in the past brought by logistical challenges such as printing machine breakdowns, lack of printing material and background checks delays, particularly on border counties.
