Luanda MP Dick Maungu has urged the Teachers Service Commission to end teachers' stagnation in the same job group.

Speaking in Emuhaya during the Knut AGM on Saturday, he said TSC was allocated Sh.1.5 billion in the financial year 2022-23 for teachers’ promotion.

"We have heard stories of teachers who have served in the same job group in the same school for over 15 years," Maungu said.

The lawmaker, who is a member of the Education Committee in the National Assembly, also decried that some teachers have been left in acting positions without being promoted.

"As the Assembly, we are coming up with a new policy to curb this acting thing in the teaching fraternity that has been a thorn in the flesh among our teachers," he said.

"There is no way that a teacher can act for more than 14 years, then someone else comes to take over, sending back that teacher who was acting in the previous position."

He said the new policy that is coming up will clarify how long a teacher should act as a teacher or deputy in any learning institution.
