Two men—both in their early twenties were on Wednesday arraigned at the Malaba Law Courts over burglary.

Titus Owino, 23, and Jorum Owinja 20, pleaded guilty to the charges before Busia Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti.

According to the prosecution, the two broke into a store owned by one Mohammed Kadhir on Wednesday morning and stole items worth Sh20,000.

The items included one folk hoe, gumboots, two hoes, an axe, a metal rode and a spade.

The accused also stole maize and beans worth Sh12,000 in the incident that happened at Jairosi village in Teso North’s Malaba North ward.

The prosecution said the burglary occurred when Kadhir was away at a nearby Mosque where he had gone for prayers.

Kadhir is said to have discovered the loss of the items during his routine patrol of the compound after his return from the mosque.

Court was told the complainant alerted neighbours who mounted a search in the neighbourhood before the lost items were found in the house occupied by the accused.

Police from Malaba police station were alerted and the two were arrested.

Nyaloti released the accused on a Sh10,000 cash bail each awaiting the mentioning of their case on June 25.

BHANG DEALER

Florence Auma who was arrested on May 30, appeared before Nyaloti and pleaded guilty to the charge.

Auma, according to the prosecution was arrested in Malaba town with three kilogrammes of the outlawed drug although she contested the quantity of the bhang that was declared before the court as evidence.

She claimed the bhang police found her with during the arrest was one kilo and not three kgs as state by the prosecution.

Nyaloti ordered the reweighing of the bhang.

Auma was released on a Sh200,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount ahead of the mention of her case on June 26.
