Luanda MP Chris Omulele has urged politicians to conduct peaceful campaigns.

He said Kenya is more important than any individual.

"I urge my brothers and sisters seeking elective posts countrywide to preach peace ahead of the polls," Omulele said.

"Our Constitution has no clause that says we must shed blood to get power."

The lawmaker, who spoke at Mumboha ground at the weekend, said leaders should be peace ambassadors during campaigns.

"We must be responsible for the sentiments we make for the sake of our nation," Omulele said.

Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo has also urged the political class to tone down the political temperature for the sake of the nation.

“We should regulate our talks while seeking support. The election is a one-day event which should not create divisions among Kenyans,” he said.

Ottichilo said the nation experiences tough times every election season.

“In 2007-08, the nation went up in flames because of our utterances. Also in 2013 and 2017. I wish this time we could make history of peaceful power transition,” he said.

Ottichilo urged all politicians to compete on policies that will benefit the nation rather than politics that will divide the nation.

"My appeal to the political class across the country is to focus on the politics of uniting the country and development first," he said.
