Seven former MPs from Migori are hoping to bounce back during the August election.

Most are seeking to recapture their seats while others are aiming for governor's position.

Five, who were once close to ODM leader Raila Odinga, will be vying on parties under Azimio la Umoja.

Former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno has declared interest in the governor's seat. He will vie on the Jubilee ticket after bolting out of ODM.

“As you are all aware, the entire Jubilee leadership comprises people we have worked with for a long time. I settled for this party because of its strong orientation on development matters," Otieno said two weeks ago.

"We have an agenda for Migori county that will spur growth."

Former Migori MP John Pesa, who is also eyeing the governor's seat, is keen to get the DAP-K ticket.

Former Awendo MP Jared Kopiyo has moved to United Democratic Alliance. He was welcomed by Deputy President William Ruto to the party late last year.

Two former MPs John Kobado of Uriri and Edick Anyanga of Nyatike, are shopping for parties under Azimio la Umoja after bolting out of ODM.

“I'm confident I will recapture my seat on August 9. We are still supporting Raila Odinga for the presidency,” Kobado told the Star on the phone on Thursday.

Nominated MP Dennitah Ghati and former Suna West MP Joseph Ndiege are the only ones confident enough to face ODM party nominations.

Ndiege is seeking to recapture his seat.

Ghati, who served as Woman Representative between 2013 and 2017 lost the seat to Pamela Odhiambo.

Ghati will face former radio journalist Josephine Sirega, former teacher Zilpah Audline, businesswoman Fatuma Mohammed and Millicent Kajimba for the ODM ticket in the Woman Representative race.

Political scientist Dansam Ouma said the seven former legislators have a sizeable number of voters who still support them.
