Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and his DAP Kenya brigade have called on Luhya community to support former prime minister Raila Odinga saying he is old and could only serve one term.

Speaking in Bungoma town Eugene who was accompanied by DAP K party leader Wafula Wamunyinyi and Tongaren MP Eseli simiyu said for the luhya community to ascend to presidency it was safer supporting an old person like Odinga who will not stay long in power.

He said unlike Ruto who was young and energetic and would have to serve for two terms making the community to wait to ascend to power.

“As the luhya community we should choose which route is easy in the succession politics, Odinga is old and will only serve one term, if we are loyal it is easy for us to be in the main succession politics,” Eugene said.

Eugene told the poorly attended meeting that he was forced to form the DAPK party after he saw persistent wrangles in the FordKenya party.

"When I saw my brothers Eseli and Wamunyinyi quarrelling with Wetang'ula, I saw the need to separate brothers that's why I invited them to join hands and form DAP-K ," he said.

The CS said the outfit will work with Azimio la Umoja as instructed by President Uhuru Kenyatta in the spirit of supporting the handshake.

He however castigated Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula for sending mixed signals as to wether he supports Raila Odinga or deputy president William Ruto.

"They should be like us who have shown a firm stand, you can't be with the president during the day and his deputy during the night," Eugene said.

Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi said the reason why they parted ways with Wetang'ula is because he was pushing them to support Ruto.

"We wanted to make FordKenya our party but unfortunately we were being forced to where we didn't want to go," Wamunyinyi said.

He said to pave way for a Eugene presidency means supporting Odinga so that when he retires Eugene will be strategically placed.

Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu urged residents to register in the new DAP -K party.

He said FordKenya was now a shell of it's former self saying DAP - K was now the option.

Others who attended included former Bungoma Women rep Reginalda Wanyonyi, Bumula politician Jack Wamboka and Trans Nzoia speaker Joshua Werunga.
