A former banker and Kisumu-based businessman Rodgers Kulali has joined the Lugari 2022 parliamentary race.

Kulali is amongst the aspirants who are seeking to replace the current MP Ayub Savula who has declared interest to run for the Kakamega gubernatorial seat.

The second-term MP is seeking to replace the Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya who is serving, his second and last term in office.

Kulali who is in his early thirties comes from Chekalini ward which has never produced a member of parliament or even an aspirant in the political history of the Lugari constituency.

So far, amongst those who have publicly declared interest in the seat include former Kakamega County Chief of Staff Nabii Nabwera.

Kulali has expressed his confidence that he is the best bet as the next Lugari Constituency due to his track record.

He is currently sponsoring 1,500 students in Tvets and secondary schools across the constituency.

“I am doing this because I know that even learners from humble backgrounds can make it in life through education. We must ensure every child is given an equal chance to get an education,” he said.

While addressing a fundraising meeting at St Charles Lwanga secondary school on Tuesday, Kulali pledged to improve the road network in the Constituency.

He said doing so will ensure farmers in rural areas are able to access the market for their produce.

“Farmers must be facilitated to reach the market without any frustrations especially for horticultural crops that are perishable.”

The parliamentary hopeful further promised to ensure that money channeled through the CDF kitty is distributed fairly and prudently managed.

“My administration will also increase the allocation of bursaries to ensure poor but brilliant students in secondary schools and university do not miss out on the opportunity to learn,” he said.

Being a young person, Kulali said he will be keen to include, in his manifesto, youth and PLWD friendly programs that will empower them.

“Most young people in the constituency are unemployed. Under my leadership I ensure we roll out programs that target the youth empowerment.”

Water availability is also another concern in Lugari with most residents having to fetch the commodity from boreholes and springs.

He plans to work closely with the water agency that is charged with the development of water infrastructure to initiate water projects in schools and trading centers that will be accessible by the constituents.
