Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli has blamed infighting among Luhya leaders as the main reason for underdevelopment and lack of political direction in the region.
He said whenever President Uhuru Kenyatta plans to take development to the region, local leaders engage in supremacy battles.
Atwoli said nobody should blame the Jubilee government for not developing the region. He spoke in Russia village, Sirisia constituency, during the burial of Margret Nandalwe on Saturday.
"Uhuru has been touring other regions with goodies, but when he plans to come here, we start fighting for not being consulted," he said.
Atwoli said the head of state is free to tour any part of the country and no leader should say that he must be consulted before he (Uhuru) visits the region.
Atwoli said the Western region will continue to lag behind in development if supremacy wars continue.
He singled out Mumias Sugar Company as one of the projects which had been earmarked for revival but infighting made it difficult to revive it.
Atwoli said he will organise a rally at Bukhungu Stadium on December 31 this year, where he was going to name and shame those leaders betraying the community.
He said he cannot allow the community to wallow in poverty because of a few selfish individuals.
The Cotu boss said gunning for the presidency is not a walk in the park as portrayed by some Luhya leaders.
“You cant win the presidency without proper machinery and finances. You need helicopters and well-oiled campaigns," Atwoli said.
He said he would use the same rally to tell the community which way to go in 2022.
Atwoli said this time round the community must elect serious leaders who will not let them down.
He said some governors and MPs in the region had turned out to be brokers and should be shown the door.
