Former Funyula MP Paul Otuoma has called on Busia residents to promote peace in order to realise development.

The 2017 Busia gubernatorial aspirant said division among residents in the county will not activate development.

Peace, he said, is a development enabler.

“To the people of Teso and Busia at large, let us promote peace,” he said.

“Let us see others as brothers and sisters. Without peace we cannot have development.”

Otuoma was speaking during the burial of seven-year-old Jenny Inyele, who is the daughter to National Social Security Fund CEO Anthony Omerikwa, in Teso North subcounty on Saturday.

The former Sports Minister who kept off politics during the burial said Busia is a cosmopolitan county with people with diverse cultures and different economic ambitions.

He said Busia residents should capitalise on their diversity among the county’s inhabitants to collaborate in the promotion of development.

Meanwhile, Lapfund and Laptrust in conjunction with the county government of Busia’s department of Public Service and Administration have conducted a pre-retirement training for county employees.

120 county employees drawn from the county’s departments who are due to retire by 2022 attended the training.

The exercise is aimed at equipping the retirees with knowledge on life after retirement in terms of understanding pension, withdrawal procedures as well as access to pension benefits.

It also aimed at enlightening the members on their rights and responsibilities, psychological issues in retirement, stress management and financial planning and management.

Lapfund regional manager George Ochieng acknowledged that the cooperation they are receiving from Busia county employees was exemplary.

The Public Service and Administration executive John Mwami appreciated members for their contribution in fostering development in the county while at service.

“You will be missed from the county because of your experience and expertise,” he said.

He appreciated agricultural officers for the success stories in cage fish farming.

Public Service and Administration chief officer Clementina Omoto congratulated all the retirees for having worked until retirement.

“My special gratitude goes to you who have served Busia citizens whole heartedly in their respective areas of jurisdiction,” she said.

She urged the retirees to ensure they use their benefits well.

Others present were Public Service and Administration director Daniel Omuse and payroll manager Silvester Adiye.
