Parents in Homa Bay county have been urged to be watchful over their children when they break for half term this week.

Kwabwai MCA Ouma Ogindo said there was need to ensure teenage girls were protected from unplanned pregnancies.

Ogindo expressed concern over high incidents of defilement and unplanned pregnancies in the county.

He warned adults who engage in sexual activities with schoolgirls that stern action would be taken against them.

“Those adults who engage in sexual acts with minors should all be put behind bars. They should realise that they are ruining the lives of the children,” Ogindo said.

The legislator said that Kanyasa ward which borders Kwabwai and Migori county has the highest number of teenage pregnancies.

The MCA also urged those who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19 to visit the nearest vaccination centres for the jabs. The vaccines are available free of charge, he said.

Ouma further appealed to the local leaders to mobilise the youths to apply for identity cards so that they can register as voters.

The MCA lauded the government for allocating Sh5 million through Kenya Rural Roads Authority to improve the Aora Chuodho to Nyandemra road.

He gave a two weeks’ notice to those who have encroached on the road reserves to relocate their structures to pave way for road construction.
