Equity to hire Bungoma scholarship beneficiaries who score A in KCSE

All beneficiaries of the Bungoma county scholarship programme who will score straight As in next year's KCSE exam will be employed by Equity Bank.

Equity Bank CEO James Mwangi said the beneficiaries will turn from learners to earners immediately after Form 4 and will earn Sh40,000.

Mwangi, who spoke in Bungoma on Tuesday during the launch of the 2021 county scholarship programme, urged learners to embrace the right values of hard work, dignity, obedience and discipline.

“Governor Wycliffe Wangamati has placed a seed in your hands. It's your effort to make it grow into a big tree and be of great importance to this great nation,” he said.

The Equity Bank boss said the scholarship has given many learners hope of achieving their dreams.

Wangamati said he decided to initiate a scholarship programme so that needy and bright students from Bungoma can proceed with their education.

All beneficiaries are given a four-year scholarship.

Wangamati said 450 students benefited from the scholarship in 2018, 500 in 2019 and 550 in 2020.

The number has increased to 1,800 in 2021.

Wangamati said the scholarship selection committee visits applicants' homes to ascertain if they are needy.

He praised Equity Bank for partnering with the county government to help needy students.
