Majority leader Aden Duale has said MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto will only make a final stand on the BBI report after proper consultations.

Speaking at Kimwanga, Bumula constituency, while leading a fundraiser for the Kimawanga Mosque, Duale said it was foolhardy to either oppose or support something you have not gone through.

“We are waiting for our party leader President Uhuru Kenyatta to make the report public then we will retreat and go read it carefully before making the final decisions,” Duale said on Sunday.

He said they will only support the report if it is all-inclusive and not meant to help a few individuals share positions.

“If it has the needs of Kenya at heart then definitely we will support it but we will shoot it down if it's anything short of that,” he said.

The legislator challenged Kenyans to be patient and not preempt the report.

His remarks were backed by Jubilee chief whip Ben Washiali, Matungu MP Murunga Justus and Bumula’s Mwambu Mabonga.

“We shall read the BBI report and come back to advise our people accordingly. Nobody has said we are opposed it because we have  to read it,” he said

The Majority leader said the disunity in Luhya land can’t guarantee any leader from within to become President "because of being over-ambitious and not uniting their communities".

“You saw it in the Kibra by-election. Mudavadi’s candidate got 5,000 votes while Ford Kenya managed a paltry 260 votes, this clearly shows how the Luhya nation is divided, if they had picked one candidate and supported him, things would have been different."

He urged the Luhya community to support Ruto’s bid, calling on ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya to shelve their personal ambitions and back the DP.

“Ruto has really stood with this country, he has fought many wars, he has been criticised far and wide but he has remained steadfast in serving this country, he should be supported to lead this country in 2022,” he said.

Washiali said, “He [Ruto] is the only leader who has got Kenyans' interest at heart, he doesn’t cause divisions and listens to each of us, ODM leader is good but he has shown Kenyans that he is self-centred."

Mabonga and his Matungu counterpart Murunga also supported the election of Ruto in 2022 while calling on Kenyans to make a wise decision.

“Ruto doesn’t discriminate, he works for all Kenyans and is not self-centred, he understands well what Kenyans are going through and is ready to fix things once he ascends to power,” Mabonga said.
