Killer AP planned to sneak into Uganda before arrest, say police

The couple is said to have been in a turbulent relationship and often quarrelled.

The Administration Police officer who shot dead his 28-year-old wife at Navakholo, Kakamega, was arrested in Busia county before he sneaked into Uganda.

Patrick Nyapara shot Christine Maonga five times over domestic dispute and escaped.

Western regional police Commander Rashid Yakub confirmed the arrest and said the officer will today face murder charges in court.

Yakub said the officer was arrested in Nasira village, Nambale, on Saturday during a search led by Navakholo sub-county DCI boss.

“He was nabbed in Busia and he is being held in a secret location for security reasons,” Yakub said.

The officer was on guard duty at Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission offices in Navakholo.  He left the station and shot dead Maonga, a teacher at Navakholo Secondary School. Neighbours intervened allegedly before he shot their three-year-old daughter.

Neighbours earlier told the Star the officer had the tendencies of threatening people with guns. He is reported to have shot and injured a girlfriend two years ago.

The couple is said to have been in a turbulent relationship and quarrelled frequently. 

Maonga’s family denied that their daughter was married to the AP.
