Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has asked Governor Wycliffe Oparanya to stop shifting his frustrations to Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula and instead face him in the elections.

Khalwale said Oparanya has no moral authority to ask Wetang’ula to keep off Kakamega and concentrate on Bungoma since he is a national leader, free to campaign in any part of the country.

“Whereas Oparanya’s fears that Wetang’ula’s support for me will cost him the governor race are justified and understandable, he needs to think hard and long before bashing him,” he said.

Khalwale said he does not feel threatened when Cord leader Raila Odinga campaigns for Oparanya in Kakamega. “In fact, I continue to maintain a cordial relationship with Raila for unity in the opposition,” he said. Oparanya on Wednesday told Wetang’ula to fight his wars and keep off Kakamega affairs and concentrate on Bungoma.

He said Kakamega is not an extension of Bungoma county. He was responding to remarks by Wetang’ula in Shinyalu that there is no development in Kakamega and residents should back Khalwale’s bid for governor in August.
