Rashid Mohammed has said he is still the ODM national youth league chairman, despite reports he has been suspended.

He was responding to a tweet by ODM communications director Philip Etale that he was suspended and replaced. “ODM has suspended Rashid Mohammed as the ODM youth league chairman.

He has been replaced by John Ketora,” Etale tweeted on Tuesday. Mohammed told the Star in Kakamega yesterday he can only be fired by the party National Executive Committee and National Delegates’ Conference because he was elected, not appointed. “I can only be fired after a disciplinary committee of the party hears me and makes recommendations to NEC for approval, after which the party NDC ratifies,” he said.

Etale yesterday said that Mohammed was suspended after an ODM youth meeting last September and the decision implemented by party executive officer Oduor Ong’wen.

But Mohammed said he is not answerable to the party executive since he is an elected leader, not an employee.

Etale did not give reasons for Mohammed’s suspension.
