Some suspicious governors, especially those from ODM, make Cord look fractured, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has said.

He blamed the ODM governors in Nyanza and Western for bringing the opposition to disrepute through their miscalculated deeds.

Khalwale urged the county bosses to embrace mature democracy so the opposition can remain united.

"Two incidents have made Cord look the way it is – Nyanza ODM governors asking Raila Odinga to offer them free ODM nomination tickets to defend their seats in the next elections and the incident of tear gassing at Moses Wetang’ula's Muliro Gardens rally on April 2," he said.

He asked Raila to remain focused and ignore the governors who fear political competition.

"Odinga should tell fearful governors they have no room in Cord,” the senator said.

Khalwale asked the ODM leader to only seek votes for president and leave his battle with Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

"I have discussed with Odinga to stop telling us who to vote for at the local level be it MCA, senator, MP or governor just like we would expect Wetang’ula to steer clear of the grassroots voting pattern of Nyanza should he become Cord's flag bearer," he said.

Khalwale said he will not tire in his efforts to convince the ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi to support a Cord candidate.

"ANC has a very big chance of expressing itself under Cord. Let Mudavadi be clever humble himself and join Cord. That way he will be stronger in 2022 as humility pays," he said.

Khalwale said the reality of a third force in the current Kenya political setting is a "wild dream".

He spoke in Kakamega on Monday.
