NOT SO FAST: Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula and Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu arrive for a media briefing on December 2 last year. Wetang’ula said the Equalisation Fund has to be approved by the Senate.

Cord co-principal Moses Wetang’ula has said the Sh 6bn equalization fund launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta last week must meet criteria from the Senate and National Assembly.

He said it is the two houses that approve how public resources should be used.

Wetang'ula said Jubilee is fond of allocating resources on ethnic lines.

He said Kenyans are displeased with the continuous blatant tribalism and exclusion of certain communities from public service and resource allocation.

“We don’t want pedestrian ways of running the country through roadside pronouncements and making of decisions that have not been well thought out,” Wetang'ula said.

He said Jubilee is balkanizing the country on ethnic lines by making tribe a criteria for appointment to public service.

"This will become a disaster in the future," Wetang'ula said.

The Equalization Fund targets arid, semi-arid and marginalized areas to strike a balance in development.

Wetang’ula spoke in Kakamega town on Saturday after meeting Luhya Elders’ Forum members and Ford Kenya officials.

He said the KDF operation in Somalia should be re-assessed.

“We need to re-asses our strategy in Somalia. Operation Linda Nchi must be restructured to protect our frontiers and territorial integrity,” Wetang'ula said.

He urged the government to publish the names of KDF soldiers who died during the January 15 attack in El Adde, Somalia.

Wetang'ula said Cord will make accountable "those who enrich themselves using public money and display obscene wealth".

He protested against the alleged harassment of the opposition leaders by the national government.
