Police in Mumias district yesterday impounded more than 120 fake land title deeds from a private land surveyor.

Working on a tip-off from the public, a team of CID officers, regular and administration police raided Pentagon guest house owned by Patrick Wanzala and confiscated the titles, green cards, land search documents and mutation, consent and succession forms.

“Some of these documents, which I believe were forged, are signed and rubberstamped by purported government officers,” said Mumias police chief George Seda.

He said several other documents were blank. Seda said they found three rubberstamps of the district land surveyor, a certification stamp and one belonging to a former lands surveyor in Kakamega.

He said Wanzala is out on bond in several land cases.

Seda said many land cases in Mumias are as a result of corrupt private surveyors who dupe unsuspecting land sellers and buyers.

He said two caretakers of the guest house, David Nyasero and Laban Manyasa, have been arrested and are assisting police with investigations.

Seda asked the judiciary to rule fairly on matters of land so that land owners and buyers can get justice.

DC Francis Komen asked residents to involve government officials in land issues.
