POLICE have said they have completed profiling those behind the gang attacks in Bungoma and Busia counties.

Western Criminal Investigations boss John Maritim yesterday said police have received adequate information about the suspects. He said the suspects have gone underground and are being pursued by police.

Maritim said the crime wave in Bungoma was not politically motivated noting that the suspects they have profiled are people that police in the region have never dealt with in crime.

“These are people out to cause chaos so that Bungoma is seen as an insecure area in this region. Investigations have not provided a direct link of the two incidents to politicians,” Maritim said yesterday in his office.

Police have interrogated politician Tom Wetangula, younger brother to Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula and former Bumula MP Bifwoli Wakoli in connection with the twin attacks.

Deputy President William Ruto and Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo toured the two counties last week and allowed police to use force in dealing with criminals in the area.

The dreaded GSU personnel have been dispatched to the two counties to help arrest the crime wave that has left several people dead and over one hundred others injured by gangs that attacked them in their homes a fortnight ago.

Yesterday, Maritim said that only two people died of the attacks and not over ten as reported by the media.

Maritim said that the hunt for the suspects had been intensified adding they will be arrested soon from their hideouts.

“Our officers are on the ground and I can assure the public that the issue of Bungoma and Busia is done with. We have the information and what is remaining is arrests which we expect to be coming soon,” the detective said.

Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula has accused the police of focusing their investigations in the wrong direction by trying to implicate politicians.
