Nakuru county flags off medical items worth Sh26.8 million

Nakuru County Government on Tuesday flagged off Sh26.8 million consignment of drugs and non-pharmaceutical commodities for health centres and dispensaries.

Deputy Governor David Kones said the procurement demonstrates the county's commitment to ensuring timely and sufficient medical supplies for all healthcare facilities to meet the needs of Nakuru Residents

Speaking when he flagged off the consignment at the County Headquarters, the DG said that the availability of health products was a critical component of service delivery

Kones who was accompanied by the County Secretary Samuel Mwaura and the County Health Management Team led by the County Executive Committee member in charge of health Roselyn Mungai emphasized the county’s commitment to quality and equitable medical services.

“The consignment that is being flagged off today is meant for the last mile distribution, reaching the remotest parts of the county to ensure that all residents are catered for,” he said.

He added that in line with the Nakuru County Government’s commitment to equitable healthcare, it was the administration's top priority to guarantee that every resident has access to necessary medical resources.

He said health was a fundamental right and the county required healthy people for a productive workforce.

“This is aimed at bolstering the health and well-being of residents across Nakuru county, the drugs will be distributed to all primary healthcare facilities within our county,” he said.

Kones said Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital and all the Level Four Hospitals in the populous county got their supplies from Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) on March 7 and 8 this year.

KEMSA Director in charge of Commercial Services, Eliud Mureithi, Director Commercial Services thanked Nakuru County Government for its continued business patronage with the authority.

“Kemsa is committed to ensuring that it meets customers' needs and demands and today, the authority brought commodities that would serve 208 health facilities,” he said 

He commended Governor Susan Kihika for her continued support in ensuring that KEMSA continues supplying Nakuru with quality and affordable health products and technologies.
