- The chairman of the Old Namanga Road Users Association, Benard Njeru, said on Tuesday they were forced to do so after they were left by the government to sort out themselves.
- Njeru said the members raised Sh170,000 for diesel after the Kajiado Roads CEC Michael Semera gave them a county grader for repair works.
On Tuesday, Old Namanga Road users in Kitengela town raised Sh170,000 to repair their dilapidated road, which they claimed has damaged their cars immensely.
They claimed the January rains damaged the road, leaving pit holes that are costing them a fortune in vehicle repairs.
The chairman of the Old Namanga Road Users Association, Benard Njeru, said on Tuesday they were forced to do so after they were left by the government to sort out themselves.
“We have a major problem here every time it rains in this area because we are left with massive potholes,” Njeru said.
Njeru said the members raised Sh170,000 for diesel after the Kajiado Roads CEC Michael Semera gave them a county grader for repair works.
He said that after they received the grader and started work on Tuesday, they realised that they didn’t factor in the cost of water to quell the rising dust from the road works.
“When we started the works on a stretch of 100 metres, our members raised alarm as all the dust from the road settled in their homes,” said Njue.
He said they also require a compactor for lining up the road materials after spraying the repaired parts of the road.
Semera said the road was in terrible condition and the only support they could provide was to give out the grader.
“Another grader is coming out of repairs from Nairobi, which we will also give to them. The road is under Kenya Rural Roads Authority,” said Semera.
He said he sympathised with the road situation along the Old Namanga Road and that is why he chipped in his support in the provision of the graders.
