Two Kajiado politicians have threatened court action against the county government for alleged mental torture, harassment and "demotion" of their wives.

The two; Kajiado Senator, Samuel Seki and immediate former Ildamat Ward MCA Samuel Teum claim their wives who are senior employees of the county have been “unfairly” transferred to village dispensaries in Ewuaso Kidong Ward, Kajiado West and Entarara area of Kajiado South, respectfully.

Both workers are senior nurses who were serving from the Kajiado county referral hospital.

Seki claimed his ailing wife, who has not recovered from injuries she sustained in an accident at work, was transferred to a village dispensary in Kajiado’s “wild west” without sufficient reason.

Teum claims his wife was transferred from the county referral hospital to Athi River GK Prison in Kitengela, and two weeks later she was further transferred to Entarara at the border of Kajiado and Taita Taveta.

“We have small children in Grades 1 and 2, and my wife, a senior nurse at the county was not even explained to as to why she was moved to the remote region,” said Teum.

The two said they are going to court to seek justice for their wives, claiming that their wives have been intimidated because of their political stances.

Seki recently demanded that all the county CECs should be vetted by the county assembly as provided by the law.

Teum, while he was the Ildamat MCA, had accused Governor Joseph Lenku of running down hospitals in the county.

He also accused the governor of underpaying casual workers at the county referral hospital.

But the county chief officer for health, Jonathan Kulei, has claimed the transfers are normal and are aimed at enhancing health services.

Kulei through the orders of the governor on October 12 made far-reaching changes in the health sector.

The changes saw the demotion and transfer of the county director of medical services, Dr Ezekiel Kapkoni.

Kapkoni was transferred to the Loitokitok sub-county hospital without a specific assignment. The hospital has a Medical officer of health, Dr Jean Abuya.

Dr Lydia Munteyian, in the changes, replaced Kapkoni in an acting capacity. Munteyian, before her new assignment, was the deputy director in charge of promotive and preventive services. It was not immediately clear if Kapkoni would report to Loitokitok sub-county hospital MoH, Dr Jean Abuya, or will take over from her.

The county chief nurse, Eileen Sawani, was replaced by Fred Fred Tarayia in an acting capacity. Sawani was moved to Ngong sub-county hospital.

Another transfer fell on the county records information officer, Thomas Kempua, who was replaced by Josephine Kampaine. Kempua now moves to Ongata Rongai sub-county hospital.
