KUP wins two parliamentary seats in West Pokot

The election was smooth in the two constituencies, despite a low turnout.

Kenya Union Party won two MP seats in Kacheliba and Pokot South in Monday's election.

KUP is allied to Azimio la Umoja.

Titus Lotee of Kacheliba and David Pkosing (Pokot South) were declared winners by IEBC officials.

Lotee was declared the winner by Kacheliba's returning officer Wilson Kipchumba after garnering 20,073 votes against outgoing MP Mark Lomunokol, who polled 17,903 votes.

John Lodinyo of Kanu was third with 1,346 votes.

In Pokot South, Pkosing won after garnering 28,225 votes. UDA's Simon Kalekem got 15,298 votes and James Teko (independent) had 2,677 votes.

Polling centres along the Kenya-Uganda border attracted more voters compared to other centres in Kacheliba constituency.

Most people along the border hold dual citizenship and on voting day they were ferried to polling centres.

Many herders from the neighbouring country also crossed over to participate in Monday's elections.

The win is a boost for Azimio in its quest to take control of the National Assembly.
