The National Fund for the Disabled in Kenya is concerned over few applicants for government aid.

The NFDK assistant manager Isaac Aliyah said while all applicants undergo vetting, it's worrying that the number of applications received is low compared to the amount dispensed yearly.

Aliyah said lack of information among the targeted group could be the main reason behind the low uptake of government funding.

He called on government administrative officers to sensitise PLWDs on the procedures to follow so that they can benefit.

Speaking in Bomet on Wednesday, the official cited the county as one of those with few beneficiaries.

He said out of the Sh60 million set aside for NFDK this year, only Sh620, 000 has been used.

Only 28 PLWDs from the subcounties of Chepalungu and Bomet Central have benefited.

“We want to ask chiefs, their assistants to help us spread the message to to all PLWDs because most of them are not aware that their is a fund set aside for them every year,” he said.

During the presentation ceremony, the beneficiaries received sewing and welding machines and other walking aid devices like wheelchairs and crutches.

Assistant county commissioner Rehema Kiteto and Bomet Central social services officer Vivian Keter urged PLWDs to come apply for the funds.

Keter reminded those intending to apply for government support to attach all relevant documents for smooth processing of the their request.
