Turkana county has spent Sh 135 million to buy drugs and medical equipment from Kemsa for six months.

In August patients and Lodwar residents complained about the shortage of drugs at Lodwar County Referral Hospital and other health centres despite Turkana spending Sh22 million on drugs and medical supplies.

They claimed whenever they take patients to Lodwar County Referral Hospital, they are directed to buy drugs at certain pharmacies.

While flagging of drugs and medical equipment at Lodwar County Referral Hospital on Monday, Turkana County Deputy Governor Peter Lothethiro said the purchase of the drugs will end shortages in all county health facilities.

“Seven lorries are loaded with drugs to supply to all health centres in Turkana. We have already sent drugs to nine health centres and Lodwar County Referral Hospital to make sure our people have sufficient drugs,” he said.

“We have bought all types of drugs for all conditions found in Turkana. The Inspection and Acceptance committee will assess he drugs to ensure they are safe.
