The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry has assured investors that West Pokot county is safe to invest in.

KNCCI West Pokot chairman Mark Lotee told journalists yesterday that local leaders had joined efforts to end cattle rustling and conflict among communities there.

“We have experienced relative peace along our borders and that’s why we are calling on investors to invest in this resource-rich county,” he said.

Lotee said the recent cross-border peace agreement between Uganda and Kenya showed that the region has embraced peace and needs development.

“Our region is now safe and residents are thirsty for development that will help open it up and create jobs for youths,” he said.

The chairman asked traders to take advantage of the Kitale - Lodwar – Southern Sudan highway and engage in various businesses.

Peace ambassador Joseph Akaule asked both county and national governments to initiate projects in the region.

Akaule said that they have been able to register over 60 groups of reformed warriors and asked the county government to support them.

“Many youths have abandoned cattle rustling and formed groups that will enable them to engage in businesses,” he said.

He asked authorities to set up schools and invest in agricultural activities along the borders to help keep idle youths busy.
