Thirteen Moi University students who have been missing for two years are suspected to have joined al Shabaab, Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has said.

He said the university is under tight security and athletes who train there are vetted to keep out criminals.

“We had demanded that students brought to the university from Garrissa should have been vetted but the matter was politicised and now we have 13 students still missing after they joined the al Shabaab,” Mandago said.

He spoke on Monday in Eldoret during the Jamhuri Day celebrations.
