Agriculture CS Willy Bett has said farmers whose maize crops have been destroyed by the head smut disease in the North Rift will not be compensated.

He said the government will not compensate farmers since the disease results from natural causes. “We shall be setting a bad precedent if we compensate farmers after a natural disaster,” Bett said on Sunday.
