More than 300 residents of Tiriondonin in Baringo North subcounty protested against poor roads on Tuesday. A pregnant woman delivered on her way to Kabartonjo Health Centre on Sunday. The residents gave the county government a week to repair the road, saying the contractor working on the Tiriondonin- Kabartonjo town road did a shoddy job. This has made the road impassable. Security officers led by Kabartonjo deputy commissioner Micah Ondoro calmed down the residents, who were demanding to be addressed by Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi.

Resident Robert Kaptum said the contractor left hills of murram on the road. “We tried to transport the pregnant woman on my boda boda but the road was impassable. People tried to carry her on their shoulders but she could not get to the hospital in time,” he said. Kaptum accused the county government of not following up with the contractor. “Our boda boda business has gone down because our customers have resorted to walking,” he said. Cheboi said he will ensure all contractors do a good job.
