A total of 630 bars and drinking

places have been shut in Eldoret town and its environs for operating illegally.

Uasin Gishu Alcoholic Drinks Control Board director Armstrong Rono said out of 1,700 bars which were operating in the region last year, 1,070 have been licensed to operate this year.

He said all pubs which were operating near Moi University, other colleges and schools are among those which have been ordered to close.

“It is only those that have been licensed which will be allowed to operate. We have sent out enforcement teams to ensure our laws and regulations are fully implemented,” Rono said.

He said bars found allowing children to drink will be shut down immediately. He said parents found allowing their children to go to clubs will also be prosecuted instead of the minors.
