Former judiciary chief registrar Gladys Shollei is considering running for a political seat in her native Uasin Gishu county.

Although she is yet to decide which political seat she will vie for, Shollei hinted of her intention over the weekend during a concert by Sauti Soul in Eldoret town. When asked by the Star which seat she will go for, Shollei said she is still consulting and would make the announcement soon.

“I might go for a political seat, but I am yet to decide because I am still consulting. But what is certain is that I am coming back. You never know. But I can’t say much for now,” she said in a recent interview with the Star.

Shollei said she wants to make a difference in the society and would want to make an impact, if she decides to go for the seat. “I have had a splendid career progression. I have made major contribution in my career in all the positions I have held that stand out,” she saidd.

The field in Uasin Gishu political scene is getting crowded with more people making announcements. So far, three candidates have said they will run for Senate. They include former Eldoret East MP Joseph Lagat, former chairman of the defunct Wareng County Council Paul Kiprop and the incumbent Isaac Melly.

Meanwhile, five county assembly speakers have hinted they will run for the National Assembly seat. They include Uasin Gishu speaker Isaac Terer, Baringo's William Kamket, Elgeyo Marakwet's Albert Kochei and Nandi's Edwin Cheluget.

Terer will run for Kesses MP seat.

He had been rumoured to be eyeing the governor seat, but yesterday he said: “Even as we talk, I am in Kesses constituency and this is where all my interests lie.” He will vie on a Jubilee ticket.

MCAs who support Terer say he has helped make the assembly one of the best performers in the country.

Kamket is eyeing the Tiaty seat currently held by Asman Kamama.

“Our opponents have been using all kinds of tricks to frustrate those of us in Kanu. But we want to send out an early warning that Kanu will take up all seats in Baringo next year,” he said.

Kochei will run for Keiyo South MP. He has hosted a series of functions in the constituency. Kochei said he will make a formal announcement soon. Cheluget is interested in the Mosop MP seat.
