Some 3,000 potential investors will participate in the March 16-18 trade forum in Trans Nzoia, Deputy Governor Stanley Tarus has said.

Addressing Chamber of Commerce members in Kitale town on Tuesday, he said 6,000 had been invited but half the number have confirmed attendance.

Tarus urged investors to establish ventures that exploit the county's opportunities.

He said the Build, Operate and Transfer arrangements have succeeded in developed countries and should be emulated in Trans Nzoia to spur economic growth.

“We have seen this approach work in countries such as Israel and the United States,” Tarus said.

"I believe this is the way to go in fostering development."

He said the county will provide land to willing investors through public-private partnership.

Tarus said a good portion of grabbed land in Kitale has been repossessed and will be used to expand the town.

KNCCI’s Patrick Nyangweso said counties should form investment boards to coordinate projects.

He urged county executives and MCAs to draft investor-friendly policies.
