The proposal to upgrade the Baringo Technical College to a university is opposed by residents.

They say they don’t want to lose their only vocational school.

The more than 100 residents told off leaders who want the technical college turned to a university.

In September last year, Deputy President William Ruto and Baringo Central MP Sammy Mwaita proposed upgrading the technical college.

They said this would attract students.

Led by resident Joshua Kandie, residents said they own the institution.

“We totally resist the changes,” he said.

He said if the institution is upgraded, many residents will be forced to seek technical trainings elsewhere.

Kandie spoke on Tuesday while receiving Sh500,000 laboratory and mechanical equipment from German Brothers.
