A group allied with Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi has been accused of roughing up human rights activist Ken Wafula on Saturday, inflicting serious injuries.

Wafula said he was rescued by good Samaritans who rushed him to Cherangany Nursing Home.

Speaking from his hospital bed yesterday, he said attackers included Kwanza constituency manager Peter Waswa, clerk Pius Situma and CDF driver Lunalo Juma.

Wafula said the attack happened at grasslands, 100m from where party leader Moses Wetang’ula was holding a meeting.

Wetang’ula was receiving those who had defected from New Ford Kenya.

Wanyonyi, however, dismissed the claims, saying: “I don’t know about the incident, but Wafula likes insulting me. If that is true, I think he must have insulted someone.”

“Wafula has called me stupid several times, but I have never taken any action against him.”

Wafula and Wanyonyi are competing for the Trans Nzoia Ford Kenya party chairmanship in next month’s elections.

They lead two warring factions.
