REA CEO Ng'ang'a Munyu in a heated argument with Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko in Mashuuru on Tuesday before they were chased out of an electric power line project site by marauding residents allied to EALA member Judith Pareno.

Residents of Mashuuru, Kajiado county, on Monday drove away Rural Electrification Authority officials inspecting a power line site.

They accused the government of delaying the project.

The residents accused Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko of colluding with REA officials to divert the power line.

The MP engaged REA chief executive officer Ng’ang’a Munyu and construction manager Joni K’Ondiek in a heated exchange over the project.

Tobiko said ODM official Judith Pareno paid REA to divert the power line to her house.

Munyu denied the accusation, saying the impasse was caused by a misunderstanding between Tobiko and Pareno.

Tobiko said she has no disagreement with Pareno.

“I want to be very clear, you people are the cause of all these troubles. In case of any trouble here, you will be held responsible,” Tobiko said.

“I have insisted and will always insist as Kajiado East MP I am calling the shots as far as development is concerned.”

Tobiko said the residents should be connected to power first before it is directed to private houses.

As Tobiko and the REA officials argued, residents armed with swords and rungus watched from a distance.

They approached them chanting war songs.

The REA officials jumped onto their vehicles and escaped while Tobiko was whisked away by her bodyguards.

The youth told the Star they are against Tobiko’s push that a borehole should be connected to power first.
