Ethuro faults Lenku on Turkana-Pokot clashes

Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro has accused the government of not being proactive in addressing crime on the border of

Turkana and Pokot.

Speaking to the press at the Reformed

Church of East Africa in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu county on Sunday,

Ethuro accused Interior Secretary Joseph ole Lenku of sleeping on his job while innocent residents are being killed by bandits.

He said the Interior Ministry should rescue the villagers who have been under attack. ''It is sad that women and children have had to bear the brunt of the attack by the criminals who have held them hostage. They cannot go and fend for themselves," Ethuro said. He said more security personnel should be deployed in the region to enable residents live in peace.

Ethuro said there is a need to disarm all the neighbouring communities along the Turkana and Pokot

border.The Speaker said he is planning to hold a crisis meeting with all political leaders from the North Rift region to find a lasting solution.
