The government through the National Fund for the physically Disabled of Kenya will give Sh100 million annually towards funding projects for people with disabilities.
Kipchimchim School for the Physically Challenged in the South Rift has received Sh2.3 million from NFDK. The sewing and knitting machines project will help the school generate income by making sweaters and badges for other schools in and outside Kericho.
The school also got a water tank and physiotherapy equipment. Kericho county board of trustees member Mike Kiswili officially commissioned the project on behalf of chair Christina Kenyatta Pratt at a ceremony held at the school's premises at Ainamoi constituency.
He said Africa Inland Church Kajiado Child Care Centre had it's Nursery school class rooms expanded under the 2009/2010 programme with Disability Resource
Information Centre getting classrooms during the 20111/2012 programme in the South Rift.
Kiswili said since the inception of the fund, some Sh25 million has been spent to establish about 10 institutions in the country. He said the fund also gives individuals mobility aid, rehabilitative equipment and vocational tools of trade.
